Fill name, address and status from the GST portal
The official GST portal search shows a business's legal and trade name, address and status, behind a picture code. Nivesh Sahayak reads that page when you paste it, so you never type the address.
Step by step
- Press Get name and address from this GSTIN. The GSTIN is copied and the GST portal's Search Taxpayer page opens.
- On the portal. Paste the GSTIN, type the letters from the picture and search.
- Copy the result page. Select all (Ctrl + A) and copy (Ctrl + C).
- Paste it back. Paste in the box; legal name, trade name, address, PIN, state, status, taxpayer type and registration date are read.
- Check and save. Correct anything, then Use these details and save as a customer or supplier.
Worked example
For a proprietor, the bill uses the trade name ("Verma Paints") by default, and the legal name ("Rakesh Verma") is kept in the record; one tap switches to the legal name.
Common mistakes and how to fix them
- Status not Active. The tool warns. Do not bill a cancelled GSTIN as B2B; ask the buyer.
