GSTIN checker: is this GST number correct?
Type or paste a GST number. You see at once whether it is well formed, which state it is from, its PAN and what kind of business holds it. Then get the registered name and address from the official GST portal and save the party for your bills. Free, no login.
How to check a GSTIN here
- Type or paste the GSTIN. The result appears as you type. Spaces and dashes are ignored, small letters become capitals.
- Read the result. A green tick means the number is well formed and its last character (the check character) matches. A red cross says exactly what is wrong, for example "The last character should be A, not 5".
- Get the name and address. Press "Get name and address from this GSTIN". We copy the GSTIN and open the official GST portal search; you type the letters from the picture there, copy the result page and paste it back here.
- Check and save. Correct anything in the details shown, then save the business as a customer or a supplier. It appears as a suggestion in every Nivesh Sahayak document maker.
- Check a whole list. Paste many GSTINs from Excel or WhatsApp into "Check many GSTINs at once" and download the result as a CSV file for Excel.
What it does for you
- Reads all 15 characters: state code, PAN (or TAN for tax deductors), registration number in the state, the 14th character and the check character, each explained.
- Finds typing mistakes: a wrong check character almost always means one character was typed wrong, and the tool tells you the character that would be correct.
- Type of business from the PAN: company, individual or proprietor, firm or LLP, HUF, trust and the other PAN holder types.
- Name and address from the GST portal: legal name, trade name, address, status, taxpayer type and registration date, read from the page you copy, never guessed.
- Checks your saved parties: every customer and supplier with a GSTIN is checked, so a wrong number is found before it reaches an invoice or a return.
- In your language: the screens work in 24 languages.
Your data stays with you
The check runs inside your browser: the GSTIN is not sent to us or to anyone. The GST portal search opens in its own tab and you copy the result yourself. Parties you save are kept in this browser and shared with the other Nivesh Sahayak tools through my.niveshsahayak.in.

Questions people ask
Is this GSTIN checker free?
Yes. There is no login and no limit. The check runs in your browser.
Can a GSTIN pass the check and still be fake?
Yes. A correct check character only means the number is well formed. Whether it is registered, active and belongs to the business you are dealing with, only the GST portal search shows. Use the "Get name and address from this GSTIN" button.
Why do I have to type the CAPTCHA on the GST portal?
The official search is protected by a CAPTCHA and there is no free official API for small businesses. So you search there yourself, copy the result and paste it here; we read it and fill the details.
What does the 13th character of a GSTIN mean?
It counts the registrations of the same PAN in the same state: 1 for the first, 2 for the second and so on, then letters A to Z.
Why does my GSTIN have Z as the 14th character?
Z is used for normal taxpayers. D is used for tax deductors (TDS under GST) and C for tax collectors (e-commerce operators).
Can I check many GSTINs at once?
Yes. Paste a list into "Check many GSTINs at once" and download the result as a CSV file for Excel.
